There are so many things that could be said about the topic.

From first-hand experience, it seems almost like they’re expecting somebody to hand them a printed script with step-by-step instructions, preferably in pictographic form — or even better, video — describing exactly what needs to be done and when.

Are they just looking at the world as if it’s one big series of dramas and DIY television episodes where they’re just observers?

They haven’t grasped the fact that they’re in the starring roles.

If we don’t find a way to engage them and get them to want to learn and do things, then we will be moving much faster towards Idiocracy.
