I had remarked a few years ago about homophones. Now, about four years on, it seems there’s one in particular that seems to have been particularly misallocated.
Or maybe because I’m additionally exposed to it:
Brake.
That is, the device used for stopping a moving vehicle.
Your car doesn’t stop with breaks. You don’t press on the break.
They’re brakes.
You press the brake pedal.
You apply the brakes.
You use the brakes to stop.
If you take a break from using the brakes, several things in your car, including its brakes, will break.
