Wait … you mean you don’t know what my stance is on Gun Rights?

Am I in favor of gun rights?

Let’s be clear: Guns don’t have any rights–they’re only tools.

A person has rights.

I am very much in favor of The People maintaining their rights — all the way down to, and in particular, the smallest minority — to exist peaceably and unmolested.

I also recognize that there is evil in the world that will commence violence against those peaceable citizens. Those evil monsters have no regard for morals, laws, or the rights of others.

The peaceable citizens must therefore have at their immediate disposal all sufficient tools to ensure they maintain their rights. That includes all variety and nature of firearms that may be needed to fend off violent criminals and, yes, even tyrannical governments who will do them harm.

Any bully — any tyrant — who makes any attempt to eliminate or even cheapen the rights of the citizenry in any manner only serves to strengthen further my resolve to resist their efforts.

And, I’d like to clarify something: the Bill of Rights does not define what you are able to do; it defines what the government is not able to do.

The American Bill of Rights restricts the government, not The People.

Seemed apropos.

An actor, whom I once admired and who shall now remain nameless, has opened his mouth and opined that our Second Amendment is meant to keep slaves oppressed.

Not sure how “…the right of The People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” can possibly be interpreted to anything other than what it says.

Obviously, there’s a substantial Reality Distortion Field in and around Hollywood that’s causing people to see things completely the wrong way.

Methinks he’d do well to jump over and read Massad Ayoob’s latest (also spotted here). Particularly this part:

Dr. King kept guns in his home to protect himself and his family. After firebombing and numerous death threats by racists, his application for a permit to carry a gun was denied by the “may issue” white power structure in that time and place.  Let the holiday that celebrates this man’s life include some reflection on the importance of the Second Amendment.

We must recognize Dr. King’s commitment for equal rights for all people by exercising our rights.
