Technology…

I reached out to DeVry because I’m interested in pursuing a BS or MA. They wanted to see my transcript. Reasonable enough.

Granted, it’s from DTC… which DeVry purchased in 2004.

How do I request my DTC transcript?

From DeVry.

So they can look at it.

I feel like I’m asking a clerk to find a form in their own archives just so I can make a copy of it, fax it back to another one of their departments, so they can stick it back in their archive.

Annoyance? Reminder…

There is a special place in hell for anyone who shoots portrait-orientation video.

It’s right next to people who edit that portrait-orientation video by rotating it to fit within a landscape orientation.

It’s taking a pile of crap and dousing it in more crap.

Stills? Fine — shoot them in whichever orientation you like.

But video? Turn the effing phone sideways to capture the scene in landscape.

Now We Know Which it Is…

A week or so ago, I shared my annoyance with the inexplicable “Accessory Not Supported” alerts that I’d begun seeing on my iPad Pro 10.5.

I think I’ve finally pinned down what it was.

Of the three things that have ever been connected to it, the only thing that was connected whenever the error appeared was the smart keyboard.

That the keyboard itself occasionally wasn’t transferring keypresses was a good suggestion that it was likely nearing the end of its useful life.

Two and a half years’ of use wasn’t bad for the keyboard. Bought it new July, 2017. No doubt the failing (failure?) point was the flexible hinge. Honestly, you have to bend it every time you want to use it, so it’s not at all surprising — science hasn’t yet devised a material that would be capable, inexpensive, and robust enough to tolerate constant flexing and bending.

So, good news: I haven’t seen the error appear in a few days that I’ve been running it naked. And, in all honesty, the keyboard does make it slightly more useful, but the first creation I’d ever done with it didn’t even use the keyboard at all with the exception of typing the name of the creation — which I could have just as easily typed with the software keyboard.

I shouldn’t use this keyboard failure as an excuse to replace the lot with an iPad Pro 11.

Which is it?

So which of the Apple accessories connected to my iPad Pro (that aren’t currently connected) aren’t supported? The Apple charger? The Apple Pencil? Or the Apple Smart Keyboard?

Seriously, those are the only things in the three years I’ve owned it that I’ve ever had connected to it.

Also…

Speaking of Half-Life — well, of the Half-Life universe…

The motors on my 3D Printer sound like Turrets humming to themselves in Portal.

Maybe I should see about capturing the audio while it churns away on the 20-hour print.
