Bonfire Night

Remember, remember,
The Fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot;
For I see no reason
Why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.

Also, we know not what the future holds. I can only hope that we haven’t regressed in our reasoning skills so far that we’re turning back the entirety of civilization two hundred years.

Homophones, Part II

I had remarked a few years ago about homophones. Now, about four years on, it seems there’s one in particular that seems to have been particularly misallocated.

Or maybe because I’m additionally exposed to it:

Brake.

That is, the device used for stopping a moving vehicle.

Your car doesn’t stop with breaks. You don’t press on the break.

They’re brakes.

You press the brake pedal.

You apply the brakes.

You use the brakes to stop.

If you take a break from using the brakes, several things in your car, including its brakes, will break.

In What Universe?!

At what point, in the logical reasoning of the Tesla software development team, could it be remotely appropriate to have the Standard speed offset, defaulted 40% higher than the posted speed limit? Seriously, That is beyond the realm of an arrestable offense when you’re stopped by the police.

I know what you’re thinking, “But it’s only 40%!”

With a posted speed of 35 mph, that would be 49 mph. When the posted speed of 75 mph, that’s 105 mph.

I very comfortably selected Chill mode. Then slid that sucker back to 10%.
