That’s Unexpected

Hmmm…that’s not something you want to see in the bed of a truck after a long day of towing down a very bumpy interstate.

Didja spot it?

No?

Where the hell did that extra bolt come from?!

Actually, I do know where it’s from. Not hugely critical–but it’s one of two that support the airbag on our air hitch.

I’ll have to see about tearing it down, inspecting, and repairing it this week.

Picking up Truck parts; RV-Life

When you’re a one-vehicle family and do your own vehicle maintenance, you gotta have a plan. And a bicycle. And bungee cords. Today’s lunch break was a quick trip to O’reilly to pick up a starter for UPGRAYEDD…then a sprint back home for the next meeting.

We’d originally planned on just swapping it out at a rest stop during this weekend’s relocation (no maintenance in the RV park!) to Las Cruces, but the solenoid had gotten worse this morning, so, had Champs Auto in Goodyear work in the replacement last-minute for us.

Looking Back

Volkswagen Beetle, 1974.

Sold!

Perhaps I’m being thick, but for some reason the ‘74 VW is more appealing to me than any one of the government-mandated third brake lights, air bags, antilock brakes, fuel-injected-emission-controlled, unibody-crumple-zoned, plastic-bumpered, liquid-cooled, automatic, classless, expensive monstrosities that people happily buy up at 72-month, 16% interest, and use and abuse and discard today.
