How to Reduce Value

I’ve recently been reminded that there are still people out there who become increasingly impatient and abusive when people don’t reciprocate their impatience and abuse.

In related news: raising your voice and throwing verbal hand-grenades into conference calls when somebody doesn’t understand your perspective doesn’t make you right. It makes you abusive and reduces your value to the organization.

The Plan

An old, but still-accurate one:

In the beginning was the plan.

And then came the assumptions.

And the assumptions were without form.

And the plan was without substance.

And darkness was upon the face of the workers.

And they spoke among themselves saying, “It is a crock of shit and it stinketh.“

And the workers went unto their supervisors and said, “It is a pale of dung and none may abide the odor thereof.”

And the supervisor went unto their managers and said, “It is a container of excrement and it is very strong, such that none may abide by it.“

And the managers went unto their directors, saying, “It is a vessel of fertilizer, and none may abide its strength.”

And the directors spoke among themselves, saying to one another, “It contains that which aids plant growth and it is very strong.“

And the directors went unto the vice presidents, saying unto them, “It promotes growth and is very powerful.”

And the vice presidents went unto the president, saying unto him, “The new plan will promote the growth and vigor of the company, with powerful effects.“

And the president looked upon the plan and saw that it was good.

And the plan became policy.

Operation failed?

Not a good sign. Had Disk Utility do a fsck, which it complained about, so I reboot to recovery mode…and with nothing running, this little gem appears.

Guess I’ll be creating a boot thumb drive then attempting a full wipe/rebuild that way instead.

Update: or not. It simply refuses to do any low-level process on the drive. Appears completely pooched. Time to order a new drive – and some tools to open the case.

Point, Click, Blame…

“Known Issue: Security settings on OS X 10.7 or later/macOS may block ****** being launched,  due to changes made by Apple.”

What they really mean to say is, “We can’t be bothered to follow some good security practice, so we’re going to blame Apple.”

In related news: 10.7.  OS X 10.7 – which was released in July, 2011! Come on, get with the program, people.
