On Boston – Under the Radar?

Couldn’t sleep, so I was doing the next dangerous thing: reading email and news.

After looking at a few still-photos of the Boston bombing, and comparing it with some video I did with muzzleloaders a few months ago, I find myself wondering if this was a crude black powder blast.

Not smokeless. Not substitute.

Black powder.

There’s lots of light-colored smoke and orange fire but not much energy when compared to modern military compounds.

On to motive:

It’s natural to wonder what kind of person would do such a thing.

There is, after all, a reason for everything; crazy people always have a reason for perpetrating evil deeds on innocent people.

I’m at a loss to comprehend what a single psychotic person would gain by the commission of such an act.

I -can- think of a few “under the radar” things that a government could stand to gain. I certainly hope I’m very wrong about that.

Do this:

  1. Go to Google.
  2. Put in ‘boston marathon bombing’ in the search field.
  3. Click search.
  4. Now, click on the Search Tools link beneath the new search field.
  5. Click the Any Time link that appears beneath it.
  6. Click Custom Range.
  7. For the first date, click April 7 and for the second date, click April 14 — dates that we all know with certainty were before the actual bombing.
  8. Click GO.
  9. Now look at the dates on list of search results.

Now, tell me realistically how in the world those outlets, agencies, organizations, and other assorted entities could have possibly known about the bombing before it occurred?

Yes, there’s a technical reason that you would be seeing those results — another discussion.

The political ramifications don’t look good.

It’s only about a five minute chase, with a foot-pursuit, but it’s an interesting perspective.

Often times people break out the “suspects are innocent until proven guilty” remark. If there’s video evidence of the commission of a crime, then you’re not a suspect, you’re a perpetrator. Also, the video is proof of guilt. So, the perpetrator is guilty. He did look like a rather young fellow, so he’ll probably be given a stern warning.

In other news, motorcycle cops are sporting helmet cams now. So that’s kinda neat.

Time to Upgrade My Windows Machine

I keep an older but suitably-well-performing Windows XP machine in the house for my ham radio and general radio stuff. But, it looks like MS is finally going to pull the plug on XP support one year from now: read.

**sigh** Looks like I’ll either need to really crank down its security or, if I want regular updates, look into a Win 7 license for the machine.
